Gilles and Monique Saulnier
Saint-Hubert, Quebec
Current ministry:
In 1990, the Lord led the Saulniers to serve the church in Saint-Hubert when Gilles became its pastor. Gilles has a burden for lost souls and is also concerned about the spiritual growth of believers. In 2006, Gilles became involved with the ministry of Aujourd’hui l’Espoir. In the spring of 2006, Monique became the executive secretary to the French Region’s Regional Director, Michel Habib.
Family:
Gilles and Monique have three married children and several grandchildren.
Spiritual Background:
Gilles and Monique were born in the Saguenay/Lake St. John region of Quebec. Both went through the trial of losing their parents at a relatively young age and this led them to search for the meaning of life. Gilles had a difficult and troubled adolescence. Gilles and Monique were married as young adults and had three children, a boy and two girls.
Work brought the Saulniers to Quebec's north shore. In Sept-Îles, they bought a new house and became friends with their neighbours, recently converted to Christianity. Circumstances on a very cold January day led them to their neighbours' house where they heard the gospel for the first time. Michel Habib, currently Regional Director of the French Region and then pastor of the Sept-Îles church, led them both to the Lord. He was their pastor for five years.
Ministry Experience:
Gilles was zealous in telling others about his faith. He shared the gospel throughout the region with friends and coworkers. After being a Christian for one year, he registered for his first theology course with SEMBEQ. Ten years later he received a Bachelor of Theology. During this time, the Saulniers started a daughter-work in Port-Cartier. In the last year of Gilles' ministry there he also served as a chaplain at the Federal prison.
Monique followed SEMBEQ courses alongside her husband and she too earned a B.Th. Monique enjoys ministering to women and has been the president of the regional women’s ministry, FLAMME, for a number of years. She is a popular women’s conference speaker.
