Where we serve

Laval / Rive Nord
abitioutaouais

Geography:

The city of Laval occupies the entire landmass of Île Jésus, an island 48-kilometres long, north of the island of Montreal. Laval’s culture and history is strongly linked to the Catholic church. It draws its name from the first bishop of Quebec (Laval) who at one point owned the island personally. Two magnificent rivers—Rivière des Prairies and Rivière des Mille-Îles surround it. Further north, across the Mille-Îles River, the area known as Rive-Nord (North Shore) consists of a series of rapidly developing communities. Both Laval and Rive-Nord are within an easy driving distance of Montreal and are connected to the city by commuter trains.

Population:

With a growing population of 350,000, Laval is the second largest city in the province of Quebec. Rive-Nord is also constantly expanding and attracting more residents.

Economy:

Laval and Rive-Nord both have some industries and businesses, as well as a plethora of stores and restaurants. In Laval, 47% of the island is a “green zone" and the city is renowned for its commercial production of greenhouse flowers and ornamental plants.

Ministry:

There are two French Fellowship Baptist churches in Laval. Église de l'Île Jésus Chrétienne Évangélique Baptiste is an autonomous church. Église Baptiste Évangélique de Laval-Est is a mission work under the leadership of Michel and Julie Vincent.

On Rive-Nord, a new church plant was started in Boisbriand/Sainte-Thérèse in the spring of 2004, under the leadership of missionaries Daniel and Marie Marcoux and John and Lise Francis. In June 2007, John and Lise Francis left this church to serve in Chibougamau.

Further east, the French church at Terrebonne-Mascouche is thriving under the leadership of Pastor Louis Bourque. Terrebonne-Mascourche launched a daugther work in Saint-Jérôme a few years ago with two leaders from within the church. Other young men are training for ministry under Pastor Bourque and there are plans to establish other daughter churches in the near future.

There is also an autonomous French Baptist church in Repentigny.
